It's about how the world would be if being gay/lesbian was seen as "normal," just like being straight is seen as being normal today, but being "straight" in this movie is seen as disgusting. I personally think this was made to show straight people how much gay/lesbians can get hurt for their sexualities, and how they see it as being normal/who they are.
