piano... :(

OK, so I play a lot of instruments for my age. I play flute, alto sax, guitar, starting bass guitar, and least of all piano (and i sing some.. ) Anyway, my question is, if I play all of these instruments, WHY do i have to take piano also? I hate playing piano! Most of my instruments i didn't start out good, but after like a month then i started liking playing all of the instruments... its been i think like at least 5 months or something and i seriously want to quit. What is it with me? I've been told im good, but i am a perfectionist and i think i suck. y do I have to play??? Seriously man!

Don't be so hard on yourself! I play four instruments, and I'm not going to quit if it starts getting hard.

Are your parents making you take piano? You can try talking to them and telling them that you aren't enjoying the piano as much as other instruments.

ya they are making me. idk what it is about the piano, but my mom says that i need to stick it out this summer and we are talking about next school year. I think what bugs my mom about it so much is that i can't say what it is about the piano that i don't like. she thinks it is my piano teachr, but shes fine. idk what it is!!!

It may be that it's not as fun as other instruments you've played. I'm not sure either, but that may be it. I didn't like playing the trumpet as much as the alto sax.

i hated playing my viola but it is ending up really fun! i hope it ends up that way for you, too

Yah, I really hope it gets better. It looks like I will be playing for a while with my parent's attitude about it (nothing disrespectful about that). Also i think my brothers want me to play because they kep on saying "I have never met someone who said i am happy that my parents let me quit". They say they always meet people who say "I wish my parents didn't let me quit the piano"... At least I can have fun with flute and guitar and bass and alto!

The only instruments I play would be the recorder and the violin, but only one song on the piano.

I love playing "Sweet Home Alambama", "Skyscraper", and "E.T." on piano because I pressed buttons and I figured it out. Those are when I have fun on the piano!

Guitar aside, almost all other instruments have the same notes as the piano does. And the piano is the easiest to play physically, and the notes are easier to learn on the piano because there aren't sharp and flat buttons on the piano like on other instruments. Each sharp and flat has it's own key, which simplifies everything. So the reason learning piano is a step down from manditory to learning other instruments is because if you can learn the notes in an easy way, you can play almost anything.

Most instruments have different keys, which means that the notes look different, but they're actually the same pitch. And brass instruments don't have sharp/flat buttons.

On a side note @Skittles, if you like playing songs like that (by ear or with music) then I think that you should continue to do that, and maybe you'll eventually like the piano as much as other instruments. c:

Don't push it. I play piano too. Sing along with the music and just enjoy it! Playing piano is a very good thing. Once you get the hang of it, you'll want to play piano all the time! Like when I'm eating, I play piano songs on the table without the keys! Lol

Haha, yeah... idk i just don't like piano i guess. i think its because its challenging because you have to look at two lines at once (bass and treble) and that's why my band teacher and my piano teacher says its the hardest instrument. The only easy thing is that all you do is press a button. Good job to you who power through and enjoy piano.

It's okay, i'm pretty sure with more partice you'll become amazing at the piano like me with my violin. It was really confusing and my teacher didn't teach me anything so i learned by myself and became freally good at it(with other people playying). Hope your parents understand if you still dont wanna do it

yah, I hope they understand... I think they just think I need to break into it, but im pretty sure im as broken in as im going to get. and yes, i kind of do have an attitude about this. im not all innocent here...

the thing with the piano is that unlike with many other instruments, finding the note is very easy. with a guitar, violin, w/e w/e you don't.
all insturments have disadvantages and advantages

Well, I'm learning piano still, and i really enjoy it! its really fun and easy!( in my opinion)

haha yup! I think it was easier at the beginning, but I'm still in the beginner books, if that makes sense. I was using really little kid books at first, and I was good at that (heheheheheheheh ) but now I don't really like it because of the level. That doesn't make sense though because on the flute, well flute is my band instrument, so I play that and have weekly lessons, and I am the farthest in the lesson books as anyone. I'm the first one at our school EVER to get to the second book, and its dang hard, but I still love it! Confusing, right?

Come now, you're only beginning at piano. I know it's tricky at first, but you've got to give it some time. Just be patient. After several years, you'll realize why your parents don't want to quit. The piano is such a popular and important instrument, so your skills will be very valuable to you in the future.

I've been playing piano since I was five, and after years of practice, I love it! And don't worry, I know just how you feel. I started playing the flute last year, and even though I could read music, I had such a hard time playing it! I thought I would be better than other kids at playing the flute because I knew how to read music, but it's much more than that. Each instrument has it's own unique qualities, so it's important that you practice. If you don't quit, I'm sure you will enjoy the piano just as much as the flute. Just don't try to rush it. Even though you are probably amazing at the flute, you aren't quite at the level of playing an eight-page sonata on the piano yet, so do not fret. You will get better as long as you continue to try your best. c;
