Kings and queens: These rule over everything else, and represent their kingdom in battle. You cannot be a king or a queen.
Rooks: Rooks fight primarily on the defensive. They've got strong armour, good tactical ability, and can be stubborn in their defence of the kingdom. They fight with long-range weapons for the most part, but can also use lances or broadswords. Outside battle, they are economists. They are the bankers, entrepreneurs, tax collectors, and businessmen of the kingdom.
Knights: Knights fight primarily on the offence. They're the cavalry and the warmongers. Their armour is light, and their weapons are tough. Knights are the only class that rides a horse into battle. They fight with longswords, rapiers, axes, pikes, scimitars, maces, and they fight close-up. Outside of battle, they're politicians. They are the lawyers, nobles, ministers, and ambassadors of the kingdom.
Bishops: Bishops fight for both the offence and the defence. They possess minor magical ability, and their fighting style is renowned for its shrewdness and its ability to get into every part of the board. Their armour and weapons are both light. They fight using blades and long-range weapons. Outside of battle, they're inventors. They are the doctors, magicians, scientists, and clergy of the kingdom.
Pawns: Pawns fight primarily on the offence. They fight as martyrs, often sacrificing themselves for the greater good of their army. They have nearly no knowledge of military technique, but they've got gutso, and can be quite the obstacle if they know how to act. They can use any weapon, but wear no armour. Outside of battle, they're the citizens. They are the farmers, entertainers, artisans, and merchants of the kingdom.

The gilded woods: It is said that deep in these woods, you can find the secret to eternal youth. At sunset, the sun turns the leaves a golden colour.
The great grey desert: The desert was once a neutral zone between the two kingdoms, but now is a hotly contested zone. Whoever manages to claim these ancient sands is sovereign to all of their riches - and they've got riches, all right.
The plains of the tyrant: These plains stretch out forever. They're host to small critters that make a huge racket at night, but their flatness makes them ideal battlefields.
The eye of luke: This lake is full of shimmering, edible fishes. It supports a small population of grey people that can be either friends or foes.
The ridge path: This mountain path leads you through the Ruppenian mountains, and is full of perilous drops, white rapids, and high altitudes.
The Fortress of Azalea:This abandoned fortress was once owned by Azalea, the great Blackpiece queen. Now, it's empty, and is partly a neutral museum. Haunted by the ghost of wars past.
The Blackpiece citadel: this city harkens back to the old days, and is full of nature and tradition. The citizens are simple people, and even in the upper echelons of government it is free of intrigue. This city is notorious for its imperialistic stance on areas like the grey desert and the ridge path.
The Whitepiece citadel: This city is full of exciting new science and technology. It's infamous for its outrageously complex bureaucracy, and everything requires some sorta paperwork. The people are entrepreneurial and easily excited.

Physical description/picture: Black hair with white and grey poking through, a stiff, constantly frowning mouth, sloping shoulders, and a heavy body. Grey eyes, and arched eyebrows.
Personality: Isabelle is stiff and cold. She never goes back on her word, and makes an effort to keep her promises. She is very, very intolerant of horse-play, and her court is honest with her - even a little scared. She is very genuine, even if it's hard to believe.
Bio: Isabelle was born the rightful heir of the Blackpiece empire. As a young girl, she was always pampered and treated well, but she was also one for books and learning. She speaks five languages and is knowledgeable on both Blackpiece and Whitepiece history and culture. She is always happiest when she is in the know on what happens in her kingdom, and employs messengers so that she knows how to treat her citizens.

Physical description/picture: Mouse-brown hair, small in both demeanour and physicality, a clean-shaven chin and long fingers. Very timid body language, he's often curved inwards, and has green-blue eyes.
Personality: Martin was born a redpiece prince from the land of Checkers, and misses his hometown - it really shows in the red-and-black décor of the castle, as well as in the strange accent that he never got rid of. He is a sad, morose man, unsatisfied with his marriage and his politics, and has accumulated a reputation as a fickle ruler and a spendthrift within the kingdom. He does, however, display an interest in battle, and can be a formidable opponent. He's an excellent tactician - but his weakness in ruling has made this fact hidden.
Bio: Since his birth, he was married young - to the princess of the Blackpieces in a far off land. He was, at first, excited to meet his new home, but the xenophobia he was a victim of as soon as he stepped foot in the citadel has ruined both his psyche and his passion.

Physical description/picture: She is tall, taller than Geoffrey but very few have pointed that out. Her hair is blonde and she generally keeps it in a tight braid out of the way. Her light blue eyes match her fair appearance. Most say she would have made a fine and elegant lady, but she is rarely seen in dresses and mostly seen in chain mail.
Personality: She can be loud and outgoing, not at all a refined lady that she should be. She secretly is quite vain, and that is known only by the innermost of the court. She can also be a bit of an airhead, after all, all she excels in is fighting!
Bio: She married Geoffrey shortly before his father's death, she had only been 16 at the time, but she did not complain for she knew it would be a political marriage that would benefit her family and the kingdom. As a child she was loud and outgoing, often playing with other children regardless of their status. She studied war and battle greatly and little by little she gained the battle prowess she has today and uses it to lead her kingdom's army. Her ability to fight and Geoffrey's knowledge of ruling a kingdom has made them a great pair.

Physical description/picture: He is short and rather small for a man. He has hazel eyes and a chestnut brown hair.
Personality: Before inheriting the crown, he was cheerful, probably far too cheerful. Any of his previous optimism disappeared when he began to sit upon the throne, his reign quickly leaving him a serious and heavyhearted man, however it did not manage to erase his eccentricity. The fact that he lacks any talent in battle actually hurts his pride far more than he lets it show, but this is a war that can't be lost, and if that meant his wife leading the army, then so be it.
Bio: His father couldn't have left him the kingdom in a worse time, shortly after entering a war with the Blackpieces he died and left the kingdom and war to be fought by his first son. At first he was terrified, for he had little or no talent in commanding an army, luckily for him his wife did. He spent much of childhood learning and being educated, and as a result he excelled in the sciences.
