The Coldharts - RP [Remade]

Kristara woke to a loud bang. She saw the grandfather clock booming eleven loud rings, and smashed to the ground along with a few books. She pulled a copy of Little Women off her face and stood still for a moment. That was loud. Very loud. The people below her would be wondering where the noise was coming from. Everyone knew the grandfather clock in the attic, but not a girl falling off a pile of books. Kristara stayed still another few moments, hoping no one would get suspicious.

Matt heard the books fall and looked back where he had come from, wondering if he knocked them over or someone else. It sounded a bit farther away, so he dismissed the thought, knowing he could just lie his way out of it if it turned out to be something important. It was too dark to determine whether he was about to pitch down a trap door or walk into yet another wall, so Matt decided to stay put until the lights went back on or the sun rose, whichever happened first. He willed himself not to fall asleep. Dozing off in an unknown corridor of the house was a particularly bad idea.

Natalie grumbled at the lighting stopped, and slammed the book closed. She placed it on the glass coffee table, standing up. " What's going on?" She yelled upstairs, hoping someone would hear here. She began to walk to the basement, and pulled open the wooden door that lead downstairs to the basement. She bumped into a few things on the way, and grumpily yelled up, " NONE OF YOU HAD THE COMMON SENSE TO CHECK THE MODEM!" She walked down the stairs - more like fell- until she found the modem. Flipping it open, she realized it was pitch black, and yelled in frustration.

Matt was vaguely aware of someone yelling a few stories down. Being alone in the dark somewhere in a 200 year old house was slightly daunting as it was, but he was too far away to identify the owner of the voice or what it was saying. Besides, he still wasn't sure if he broke something or not. He stood up against the wall to minimize chances of being stepped on, trying to slow down his breathing in case someone walked by. He really didn't want to be caught up after hours by someone who is almost certainly insane and, in the case of Narcisa, has a 45% chance of being drunk or something in the middle of the night during a blackout.

Kristara heard Natalie scream. This 200 year-old house has a MODEM? she thought, bewildered. Sighing, she looked outside. The rain was drizzling now, and she clicked the light switch, which didn't turn on. Hopefully no one was in the corridors. She unlocked the bulkhead silently, and opened it. She held the stairs and looked at the hallway below her. Shinning her light, Kristara saw a shadow around the corner. She quickly turned the lantern off and struggled to keep the stairs from unfolding.

Matt stayed absolutely motionless. He couldn't see a thing, for all he knew he was about to fall down ten flights of stairs. Or back up into some sort of potentially explosive piece of equipment. Or some random crazed relative who would beat him to a pulp. Heck, this house was probably full of things that could be deadly if walked into in the dark. He felt his face grow cold. Just a few more hours. It's probably something like midnight... he reminded himself.

Kristara quietly opened the stairs and they fell with a thump. At this pointshe didn't care if anyone was there, she just walked down and turned her lantern on. Closing the bulkhead and locking it, she walked over to the shadow and found Matt against the wall.

Matt whirled around to face the lantern light. "Oh, it's just you." he said, sounding somewhat relieved. Kristara might be a ditz, but she seemed at least seemed not to be drunk or angry. "Say, what are you doing up? You know we're not technically supposed to be out here at this ungodly hour. If I had a choice I know I wouldn't be."

Kristara looked at Matt for a moment, then just shrugged. He obviously wasn't suspicious, and in fact seemed a little scared. Amused, she shone the lantern along the corridor and found the spiral stairs. She slid down the railing and walked into the kitchen. She searched for a lighter and found one next to the stove.

Now that Matt thought of it, he probably should have asked Kristara if he could borrow the lantern. Too late now, though. He'd just have to stick it out till dawn. He slumped to the ground, now confident he wasn't about to go crashing down the stairs. Next time he wouldn't stay out this late. The rain probably wasn't going to let up until the next day, there was little to no chance of the lights going back on.

Kristara found some old candles and started to light the kitchen up. She ran back up the stairs with the candles and lighter and placed candles on tables in the corridors. She passed by Matt and gave him a long, thin candle. Running downstairs to get more, she tripped and fell. She got up and ignored the pain in her leg and got to the kitchen in a flash.

Matt took the candle. "Thanks" he said with an air of indifference, trying to hid his embarrassment at taking help from a girl he considered a ditz. He stalked up the stairs to his room, closing the door behind him and extinguishing the candle, placing it on his desk until he could put it away properly. The power still hadn't come back on, but at this point it didn't matter. It would be daytime in about 4 hours anyway.

"WILL SOMEONE COME DOWN HERE?! I CAN'T SEE THE MODEM!" Natalie screams. She hates the dark, but won't admit it to anyone.

Matt could hear Natalie loud and clear now, knew it was her, and knew what she wanted. However, he decided not to answer. There was no way he'd venture back out in the dark just to go be of no use to Natalie. It would annoy her and he'd be putting himself at an unnecessary risk. Not worth it, in his opinion.

Kristara heard Natalie and grabbed her lantern. She didn't know where to go, so she searched the house until she found the door to the basement. Opening it, she walked down the stairs. The floor creaked under her feet, but she wasn't the least bit intimidated. Turning around and shining the lantern on spider webs and driping pipes, she finally bumped into Natalie from behind.

Natalie yelped, turning around to smack Kristara in the face. " WHO'S THERE?!" She screamed.

Matt grinned, hearing Natalie's scream. He knew it had to be Kristara who shocked her, the only one wandering around with a lantern. He couldn't rely on Kristara to know what Natalie wanted, but she was helpful enough as she proved with the useful donation of a candle not one hour ago. These people might be insane, but at least they weren't completely brain dead.

Kristara fell backward in surprise. Natalie must be scared of me. Stay calm, Kristara. She looked at Natalie's face and was pretty sure that Natalie was scared to death. Getting up, Kristara dusted off her pants and shone her lantern on the modem.

Natalie calmed down when she saw Kristara. " You scared me!" She snarled, snatching the lantern out of Kristara's hands. She opened the modem, and fumbled around for a while. " AH! HERE IT IS!" Natalie sighed, touching a few things. The lights flickered a few times, then flickered on. " Some idiot turned the lights off using the modem." She grumbled. She handed Kristara the lantern. " No matter. Shall we go up?" Natalie held her dress up, walking up the stairs. She saw Matt. " I fixed the lights," she said, a grin coming up her face.

Kristara followed Natalie up the stairs. She saw her telling Matt she fixed the lights and rolled her eyes. Yeah, she thought. After someone saved her from being paralyzed in fear. Kristara went over to her room. The lights were on, but she turned them off and flopped on her bed. She layed there, wide awake.

Natalie rolled her eyes back at Kristara. " Looks like someone's having a little hissy fit. Watch your attitude with me, missy. You better respect your elders, especially this one. Do you know how high-ranked I am in this family, compared to you or the other children?" She spat at Kristara, her attitude becoming ruder at the second. She hated immature people. She hated when people rolled their eyes at her. They needed to know their place, and who she was.

I'm sorry, am I being too rude for you? Kristara thought, rolling her eyes again. Maybe you are right. After all, a 23 year-old girl who is scared of the dark and throws hissy fits SURELY is the most mature person I've ever seen. Kristara knew Natalie was trying to intimidate her, but just silently smirking can create anger for Natalie.

Natalie walked up to Kirstara, snatching her card from her. She held it in a ripping motion, a slight area of it becoming chalky. " It'll be funny if I rip this thing in half. It's worthless, anyways. No wonder your so weak." Natalie smirked.

Lilliet turned off the lights and went to sleep. It was probably over midnight. Lilliet was very tired after time-travelling. She called the Coldharts again. "They must have light now.."

Natalie didn't bother standing near Kirstara again. She shoved past her, as she heard the phone ringing. " Hello, Natalie Coldhart speaking. How may I help you?" She said in a sophisticated tone, no trace of anger in it.
