Writing Contest!!

Okay well uh I know Mace said we'd have some more writing/art contests, but since we haven't had any new contests recently, I thought I'd host one for writing! And I've already talked to MacTavish about this and she said it's fine, but if this topic belongs in another category, then admins please do move it, I apologize in advance.

Alright, so this is something that we're doing for a writing contest in school, and I thought you guys might enjoy it. Basically, you're going to write a story, but I won't give you a storyline to write about; that's all your decision. But the twist is that you have to write a story using a random object as symbolism.

Symbolism is when an object represents a connection between characters, or it influences the storyline somehow. For instance, if two characters in a story are close friends and they each get a little heart friendship necklace, then those necklaces would be symbolic of their friendship.

Now that you understand symbolism, here are the rules:

So the rules are pretty basic. If there's anything unclear or that you have a question about, post here.


Alright, as promised, here are the seven objects you can use as symbolism in your story:

-an apple tree
-a notebook (used for whatever purpose you decide; drawing, writing, letters, etc.)
-a pendant/charm (you decide what it looks like)
-a flat tire
-a stuffed animal of some kind (again, your choice)
-an old bike
-a pink hair ribbon


Okay, now if anybody is curious, I'll post the judging criteria. It will add up to a total up fifty points, and the judges can decide the winners based on the rubric. However, if you are a judge, you don't have to use the following rubric. It's just here to help with judging.

So that's pretty much it. I hope I've covered everything! The submission deadline is March 17th. I'll extend if necessary, but I think that's enough time for you all to write a nice short story. Have fun!

@cottoncandy, i'm not going to show you guys all of the entries, but when i post the winners (there will be 1-3 winners depending on how many people enter), i show you the stories that won. but if anybody wants to post their story here as well as pm me, they're more than welcome to!

also everyone else, i'm really happy you're joining! if you pm'ed me asking to be a judge, i would love to make you a judge, but i'm waiting to see if there's anyone else who wants to be a judge also. i want everyone who wants to be a judge to at least get a chance to, so it isn't like first come, first serve. but the people that pm'ed me already would be great judges, i'm sure!

okay, so a lot of people have pm'ed me about being a judge, and I've decided who I'm going to have as judges. just remember that if i didn't respond to your pm, that doesn't mean i ignored your request! but i decided that CottonCandy and Martin Freeman's Nose seem most qualified to be judges. congratulations! remember that i am counting on you guys to help judge. also, sorry to everyone else who didn't make it. it was pretty close.

on another note, we need a lot more entries for this contest to go through. so far, scarilicious is the only one who entered. i really appreciate all the entries, even if this kind of writing isn't your strongest area!

do you mean like what score they got on each area, or just the total out of 50 points?? and do you want me to post the scores just for the winners, or for everyone?
