pmmm's a pretty good anime, but i'm not sure if it should be her first. because dang, large amount of feels in that anime (but you should watch it sometime ok). idk what to recommend since there's approximately 187318417971519651 anime ingrained into my brain, but i hope you find a good one to watch as your first!

PMMM is a great anime, but you should watch it only once you get used to anime. Maybe for starters you should watch either K-On, Lucky Star, or Baka and Test. You could start off with Puella Magi Madoka Magica, but only if you like horror.

Well my favorites are Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Clannad (and Clannad After story), and Kaiba However they will make you cry like crazy so they wouldn't be a great first. Clannad is definatly the saddest though. I also like Soul Eater but I'm not sure if it would be a great first either
I'd recommend you'd go with Avatar the Last Airbender. Its really good and I loved it when I was in 5th grade. Its in English too and the voice acting is awesome as well as the plot What really got me into anime was Hetalia (started watching it in 6th grade) but it might be a little extreme. Its a good anime but has very little plot and only made me cry like once. It just makes people laugh like insane.
Oh yeah Sword Art Online is a good one too it has a great art style and its really cool! And there's Magical Gorl Lyrical Nanoha which I watched like months ago and I haven't started the second episode (shame on me I should really finish it). But it was extremely cute so far!

After you watch some starter animus, you can go to the more emotional ones like PMMM and Clanned. ( Sorry if that's not spelled correctly.) Also, you could read Kagerou Project online, which is originally a vocaloid song series sang by IA.

Nope! I've watched the anime and read the manga and I enjoyed both (I even watched the live action movies, too, which I actually thought were pretty good as well).

Evangelion, Kaiba, Higurashi, K-On!, Perfect Blue, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Ruroini Kenshin, YuYu Hakusho, Ghost in Shell, Blue Exorcist, and Ranma 1/2. Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan is also one I would recommend, though the manga is a lot better than the anime IMO. ^^ There are a lot of other really gr9 anime I would recommend, but I'm sure this list is long enough. ;`;
